SMS/MMS Analytics

The wide adoption of messaging services, which generate significant revenues for network operators, makes it important that you maintain high quality of those messaging services.

Consumer complaints about messaging services typically encompass “send” or “receive” failures. To investigate these complaints, you can turn to the Short Message Service Center (SMSC) to gain information from the network’s view. But if you want to know what consumers have actually experienced, you need information directly from the mobile devices themselves.

Carrier iQ provides SMS/MMS analytics that let you understand the quality status of your messaging service from consumers’ perspective. As a result, Carrier iQ allows you to drill down into details of messaging services problems based on actual device data, to troubleshoot the problems as well as track trends over time.

The following is a sample of the relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for SMS/MMS Analytics:

  • Average messaging send latency
  • Messaging send failure rate
  • Messaging retrieval failure rate
  • Messaging send success rate
  • Messaging retrieval success rate
  • Number of messaging notifications, retrieval attempts and failures, and send attempts and failures

You can further analyze KPIs such as the ones listed above in various dimensions, such as:

  • Precise timing, state and size of individual messages
  • Type of messages: SMS, MMS
  • Device make, model and firmware
  • Location of the device
  • The radio technology in use
